How it works
Internet Protection
By ticking this box you disable the mobile phones onboard internet browser. This means that your child will not be able to access the internet from their mobile phone. If the child attempts to launch the internet browser then a report will be sent to your Mobile Sentry account.
Install protection
By ticking this box you enable a feature that blocks the installation of 3rd party applications, for example games and chat programs. If the install protection detects the user trying to install a 3rd party application file then the install is cancelled and a report is sent back to your Mobile Sentry account. Due to OS limitations Android users cannot block installations, however all new installations will be reported to the control panel.
Call blocking
In order to enable call blocking you need to tick this box. Once you have enabled this function you can select from the blocking type drop down menu which type of call blocking you wish to enable.
Allow list
By enabling the allow list feature, only numbers defined in the allow list will be able to be contacted from the phone. All other calls will be blocked. The phone will still be able to receive calls from any number however if the user tries to call a number not specified on the allow list then the call will be disallowed by the Mobile Sentry application.
Block List
By enabling the block list feature, all numbers defined in the blocking list are disallowed and will not be able to contact the mobile phone, nor will the user be able to call any numbers defined on the block list. All calls to or originating from a block listed number are logged to your Mobile Sentry account. (See Reporting function below).
NB. Emergency calls and childline numbers can never be blocked.
SMS blocking
By enabling this feature you can block all incoming SMS messages from numbers on the block list. All blocked SMS messages are reported to your Mobile Sentry account along with the actual message content. Unfortunately due to the limitations of the Symbian operating system you are not able to block any outgoing SMS messages. Variations also apply to Blackberry phones, please see compatability list.
Reporting
Enabling this feature means that you will receive reports from the mobile phone on all call and SMS activity as well as any banned event reports such as the launching of the internet browser. All calls both outgoing and incoming are reported along with a time stamp and the call duration. If the call is made to a number in the mobile phones address book then the name of the contact will also be shown in the call logs. All SMS messages are recorded both incoming and outgoing along with the content of the messages.
GPS location
Provided that the phone is equipped with a GPS module this feature will enable you to see the real time location of the mobile handset at its last update. Because the location information is only sent to the control panel when the mobile phone updates with the system, GPS locations are plotted at this time. At the top of the GPS page you will see the last time that the mobile phones location was known. If you need to know a location of the child’s mobile phone and can’t wait for the next update period you also have the option to make a location request from the GPS page on your control panel.
* Only available on phones with inbuilt GPS location function
